Dear CryoSparc term, Due to an incident, our institution’s internet is shot down. I am wondering if I can move my CryoSparc server to my house and use the private internet to use CryoSparc. Does this work? Does the license support this? Thank you in advance!!
Lan
My question is if the cryosparc license is attached to a specific IP address? does wifi connection support to run cryopacrc?
thank you for your input,
Lan
As long as you continue to comply with the terms of your academic license, you may operate your CryoSPARC installation at your desired location / on your desired choice of hardware. Some reconfiguration may be required, depending on the new network environment.
The license ID is not linked to a specific IP address. I have not tested a wifi connection for the shared storage between CryoSPARC master and workers. A wifi connection between your web browser and the CryoSPARC master may be okay.
As in any other installation environment, ensure that CryoSPARC-related network ports are shielded from unauthorized access.
Dear Wtempel, Thank you very much. Cryosparc works well using the home internet. Lan
Dear wtempel,
Thank you for your advice, which worked well for me. Now I face another issue and would like to get your advice. Can the Rocky computer with Cryosparc installed and my office Mac computer join to the same domain of the Internet? Our IT support needs this verification to re-set the internet access and make sure cryosparc working properly.
Thank you so much!
Lan
Is this the computer where you plan to run the web browser (to access the CryoSPARC GUI)?
Dear wtempel,
Thank you very much for your kind reply. My Mac is in my office on our domain, and the Rocky is in a different room on a different network. Before our IT shutdown, I usually used my Mac to run the Cryosparc GUI. Our IT wanted to Rocky internet into our main domain. He just wants a confirmation from you before doing that. Thanks, Lan
I am not aware of the precise nature of the proposed network changes, but here are a few thoughts:
- A change in the CryoSPARC master server’s FQDN will likely require some reconfiguration inside CryoSPARC.
- Access by the CryoSPARC instance’s computer(s) to networked storage for raw data and project directories may or may not be affected.
- The impact of network changes on the security of the CryoSPARC servers’ network ports needs to be considered.
Dear wtempel: Thank you very much for your explanation. I have forwarded your comments to our IT support.
By the way, when have time would you please to take a look of my post on
“Could not get database status”
Before that happened, I found that I was not able to delete some jobs, and then I run cryosparcm stop and cryosparcm restart … restarting computer did not help, re-run cryosparcm stop start did not help…
Could you help me to get out of this? Thanks, Lan
