How to apply symmetry to 3D refinement?

Hi,

I am running CryoSPARC2. I am curious whether we need to specify the axis/center of the symmetry to apply it to the 3D refinement?

Hi Guobin,
Either primary symmetry axis should be aligned on the Z axis of the map, or “Do symmetry align” parameter should be ON (as by default).

Unfortunately symmetry alignment doesn’t always work. But don’t worry…you will know if it fails and manual alignment is required, the result will look crazy. But symmetric!

Thanks for your feedback! It sounds that the program does search for the symmetry axis by default and there is space to make it more robust. Good to know.
