GUI improvements/problems

Observations/suggestions from v2 users:

  1. For some job types like Ab-initio where the text log shows the elapsed time and the estimated time remaining, would it be possible to make a progress bar, displayed on the right size of the GUI, in the Job details? At least an elapsed time counter would be nice, instead of the long timestamps.
  2. In the job builder panel the “Queue” button at the bottom overlaps in position with the user “log out” pop-up, and many users accidentally log-out instead of queuing the job. The username maybe could be moved somewhere else…
  3. In the particle select interface the white “Done” button at the bottom is very non-intuitive, most new users are totally confused of what they suppose to do next. Would it be possible to move it to the top and color it?
  4. Other white buttons could be also colored to be more intuitive where the user should click when they’re done.
  5. On a single workstation system, would it be possible to cut out the pop-up dialog after clicking “queue” since the job will be local.
  6. Is it possible to visualize local motion correction plots from the GUI? (for a done job).
  7. For heterogeneous refinement the percentage and resolution for each model do not show in the workspace view. This was a user favorite in v0.
  8. Is there a way to inspect/sort/select CTF images?
  9. Is there a way to interactively exclude micrographs at the manual picking stage?

100% agree with all of these suggestions!

Re 9, the micrograph curation job does quite a good job of this - you can use it just after CTF correction (i.e. before manual picking)

Re 8, you can sort and select by estimated CTF fit res and CC, and it will show the CTFFIND 1D plot in the right hand panel (if CTF correction was done in cryosparc) but I don’t believe there is a way to show the power spectra

Dear @istv01, thank you very much for your feedback, we have noted these issues/requests and hope to address them in future updates.

“2. In the job builder panel the “Queue” button at the bottom overlaps in position with the user “log out” pop-up, and many users accidentally log-out instead of queuing the job. The username maybe could be moved somewhere else…”

Exactly!

Here are some of mine:

a) I like the cryosparc0-style result button list, in which the maps/2D classes/particles are listed on the buttons. So one can easily drag stuff from different jobs, instead of having to open individual jobs.

b) If the parent and child results are shown on the buttons it would also be of great help (now they are on the right-hand panel when a job result is opened, but they are too small and are hard to find among other things). The tree view is a good idea, but it is too small to read.

c) The new job botton list page is OK, but it is not really that helpful to use that limited space to show a section of the 2D classes.

d) In the job builders, the places for dropping the inputs are a little too thin. If they are squares it would be harder to miss them.

e) In job builder, if the advanced options are marked by a different colour or font when unfolded, it will help the user to find the options from a long list.

f) If the user has option to change the zoom of micrograph display it would be great. We have 4K images and 4K monitors, but we are only seeing less than 1K in the picking/grayscale inspection jobs.
