Bin particles when creating new dataset from particles

Hi,

The new “Create dataset from particles” workflow is very handy, especially when starting from large datasets (millions of particles) and large box sizes.

However, I’m finding that for some sets, even after classification they won’t fit on my SSD. In such situations it would be very handy to be able to create a binned version of the particle stack, but keeping a link with the original stack - so that one can process through to a nice small 3D class using 2X or 4X binning, and then easily select the equivalent set of particles from the full size images for final refinement. Is this something that might be on cards for a future version of cryoSPARC?

Cheers
Oli

Hi Oli, this is a valuable point. Do you know if cryosparc has any issues in running 2D classifications with 2.4 Mln non-binned extracted particles from Relion, in terms of CPU?
Thanks
Jacopo

CPU isn’t the issue, it’s RAM that’s the problem. Depends on your box size and how much memory you have.

Cheers
