CPU parallelization of particle extraction? [Feature request]

Hi,

Currently, the GPU version of particle extraction can be parallelized, but the CPU version cannot be. Would it be possible to add the capacity to parallelize particle extraction for the CPU version too? I have a limited number of GPUs that are usually occupied doing other things, but many CPU cores to spare.

would still love to have this - on a lot of workstations this would offer a substantial speed up and more efficient use of resources
