Ab initio shift search ranges?

Hi,

What is the initial shift search range in ab initio reconstruction? And is it absolute (n pixels) or proportional to box size?

The reason I ask is that for small, crowded particles that have already been well-centered (e.g. picked using blob or template matching to denoised images), I suspect we could benefit from reducing the shift search range, but there is no way to do this currently; and knowing whether it is implemented as a fraction of box size or an absolute range of pixels would help tweak it in the mean time.

Having some control over the initial search range for shifts in ab initio may be worth exploring for the future?

Cheers

Oli
